All good things must come to an end, so they say. After setting off from western
Canada in spring 2002 for an adventure of a life time, we now find ourselves, 4 1/2 years
later, at the end of our trip and returning to Canada in December 2006.
So, our adventure has come to an end. And, perhaps, this is where your adventure
will begin aboard a true and proven bluewater cruiser of renowned reputation, a Fast
Passage 39 named TIOGA.
She is lying just north of Amsterdam and is ready to go. Just board her and sail
away. All the hard work (and great expense) of outfitting a boat for the rigors and
pleasures of world voyaging, is over. Just carry on with her regular maintenance and
enjoy.
For European prospects and those looking to avoid the length-of-stay limitations placed
on non-EU boats, she is VAT-paid. |
For those not initially familiar with the Fast
Passage 39, she is a much sought-after late-1970s canoe-stern cutter designed by William
Garden and sailed to distinction by Francis Stokes in the inaugural 1982-83 BOC Challenge
single-handed around-the-world race.
The 39 enjoyed a ten-year production run totaling some 40 boats in the 1970s and 1980s.
Most were built at Philbrooks Shipyards in Sydney, British Columbia, Canada. A handful,
including Moonshine, came out of Tollycraft in Kelso, Washington. William Garden's
design is a capable amalgam of performance and seakeeping well suited to a sensible
offshore voyaging mindset. If you are looking for an optimal bluewater cruiser, take
the time to research the Fast Passage 39 |
